The Geographic Society of the University of the Philippines (UP GeogSoc), in partnership with the UP Department of Geography and the International Association of Young Geographers (IAYG), will conduct its 11th Philippine Geography Olympiad (PGO) virtually from April 22–24 and 30, 2022.
PGO is the premier and largest nationwide geography quiz bee competition for
junior and senior high school students in the country, and aims to
- promote the discipline of Geography and highlight its sub-disciplines;
- strengthen geographic knowledge among the youth and instill in them a genuine appreciation of the country, the Philippines;
- . serve as a venue for high school students to showcase their knowledge in the discipline of Geography;
- . advocate for the holistic discipline of Geography at the forefront of local, national, and global development; and
- help Filipino Geography gain prominence on the international scene.
Schools may send at most eight participants (four Junior High School students and
four Senior High School (SHS) students). The winners of the event shall represent the
country in the annual International Geography Olympiad (iGeo).

Participation of public and private schools shall be subject to the no-disruption-ofclasses policy stipulated in DepEd Order (DO) No. 9, s. 2005 titled “Instituting Measures
to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith” and the policy
on off-campus activities stated in DO 66, s. 2017. This is also subject to the no-collection
policy as stated in Section 3 of Republic Act No. 5546 also known as “An Act Prohibiting
the Sale of Tickets and/or the Collection of Contributions for Whatever Project or Purpose
from Students and Teachers of Public and Private Schools, Colleges and Universities
(Ganzon Law).”
